With the tradition of giving house warming presents still standing, a lot of people are still giving tacky or uninspiring gifts to the new neighbors. With a tradition of giving gifts of health and prosperity still standing, it seems to be getting a little stale now a days.
What most people seem to do when new people come to the block, is dig up some old nic-nacs, cook some food, or give them flowers of some sort. And they seem to just do it in a daze, and not even realize they are giving away junk. It’s almost like they were brain washed or something, or even a pack of zombies walking down the street to get their next victim. Pretty scary stuff that is for sure.
Do you really expect them to feel very welcome as you invade their privacy with peace offers of food, old junk from the attic, and some flowers. Are they allergic to flowers? Man, imagine if they are, you might as well have just kicked them in the gut and gotten it over with.
Lets say, instead of running over there with some really bad stuff, you think it through, and try to find them something unique, something that they could potentially treasure for a very long time to come. Then, instead of going over there mingled with the mob, ready to attack. You wait, allow the rest of the block to give their crummy gifts, and then when they disperse you walk over there, and present them with your unique treasure you found just for them. Will it cost more than cooking some food, and digging up the roses? Maybe a little bit more, but it certainly will be worth it in the long run
When giving house warming gifts, it is always best to think of them first, and what you want second. This makes for a better gift, and a better friend in the long run.
